Open letter to politicians

We have joined 11 other leading animal welfare organisations in an open letter calling for exporters to walk the talk and show they are serious about animal welfare - by immediately applying a voluntary suspension on all live animal exports to or through the Red Sea and around the Cape of Good Hope, while animals are at risk of Houthi Rebel attacks. Read the letter here. We will continue to campaign in collaboration with fellow animal welfare organisations to amplify our voice for the victims of live export. Please continue to donate and share our Go Fund Me link with your networks, so we...

Fremantle rally for the Bahijah tragedy

In light of the horrific Bahijah tragedy, we recently held a rally at Fremantle Port to campaign against the animals being re-exported for another cruel 33 day journey at sea. Thank you to the hundreds of caring people who braved peak hour traffic to cross the city at short notice and be a voice for the animals! It was a great turn out that received widespread media attention, helping to get our message out to the public and generate additional support. Thank you to our loyal supporters Federal Member for Fremantle Josh Wilson MP and State Member for South Metropolitan Region Brad Pettitt...

Say thanks to Ag Minister Murray Watt and PM Anthony Albanese

On Friday (3 March), we came one step closer to relegating live sheep exports at least, to the dustbin of history, as the current government announced the first step towards phasing the cruel trade out of existence with the reveal of its Independent Transition Panel, comprised of experts in their field and chosen to guide the government on the best way to implement the phase-out.

Would we like to see the trade end tomorrow? Of course, but that's just not feasible without creating a repeat of the 2011 live cattle to Indonesia suspension and the subsequent billion-dollar+ class action bill...

ABC Investigation into the sinking of live export vessel, Gulf Livestock 1 in September 2020

Tragically, MV Gulf Livestock 1 struck a typhoon whilst en route to China from New Zealand in September 2020. All but two of the 43 crew and all 5,867 heifers on board perished, demonstrating just how risky live animal export is for human and non-human animals. The event was a large contributing factor in New Zealand's decision to ban all live animal exports by sea (effective April 2023). The ship had loaded cattle in Gladstone, Queensland that very month. Would the Australian government have a more favourable opinion on banning all live exports by sea had the ship originated from Australia...

Stop Live Exports – President’s Report Oct 2022 AGM

2022 heralds a new direction for Stop Live Exports. Our decades of advocating on behalf of animals has been heard by the Albanese Government who has committed to ending live sheep exports. This is incredible news and we should all be extremely proud of our efforts! The Committee and I cannot thank our supporters and volunteers enough for your dedication and perseverance. Thank you, for writing to the decision makers, for sharing our communications and for attending the Human Chain event year after year, standing on the Stirling Bridge in full sun, the wind and the rain, refusing to give up...

Eleven years of Stop Live Exports’ Human Chain

Many of you may be wondering and a few have asked “is there a Stop Live Exports Human Chain this year?” At our zenith, we saw over 1200 people on this bridge, but numbers have dwindled year by year, and if we can’t have a consistently strong show of support on the bridge, we would rather switch our tactics. We have stood on the Stirling Bridge for 11 years, come stinging rain, chilling wind or blistering sun and we thank all those who turned up year after year to remember and pay tribute to the millions of animals who have passed over that bridge on their way to slaughter in foreign...

Join the Stop Live Exports volunteer committee!

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's government has committed to ending live sheep exports  but we still have work to do. The longer they wait, the longer animals suffer, so in alliance with several other animal welfare organisations, we’re campaigning for the phase out to begin during the new government's first term. This is an exciting, unprecedented time. Never before has an end been so close! And we're looking for dynamic people to help us cross the finish line. If you have skills in fundraising that can help us grow and reach our full potential, Or are business savvy, able to advise us...

Take action with our friends at Animals Australia

Labor pledged to end live sheep exports if elected. They have had a resounding victory, with an absolute majority in the Lower House and a friendlier Senate than last parliament. Help keep them true to their word and get live sheep exports ended as soon as possible. Take action at Animals Australia's website here.

Press Release: Mr McGowan – Australians don’t want our animals treated badly

Fremantle-based not-for-profit organisation Stop Live Exports has refuted Mark McGowan’s claims that current live animal export standards are acceptable, saying welfare standards are badly lacking despite Australia’s decades-long involvement in the trade. “You only need to read the Independent Observer reports to know this”,  Stop Live Exports Campaign Manager Katrina Love said. The group says the writing is on the wall, with the trade in terminal decline and the majority of Australians in favour of ending live animal exports. They are calling for an end to live animal exports and rubbished...
