Eleven years of Stop Live Exports’ Human Chain

Many of you may be wondering and a few have asked “is there a Stop Live Exports Human Chain this year?” At our zenith, we saw over 1200 people on this bridge, but numbers have dwindled year by year, and if we can’t have a consistently strong show of support on the bridge, we would rather switch our tactics. We have stood on the Stirling Bridge for 11 years, come stinging rain, chilling wind or blistering sun and we thank all those who turned up year after year to remember and pay tribute to the millions of animals who have passed over that bridge on their way to slaughter in foreign...

Join the Stop Live Exports volunteer committee!

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's government has committed to ending live sheep exports  but we still have work to do. The longer they wait, the longer animals suffer, so in alliance with several other animal welfare organisations, we’re campaigning for the phase out to begin during the new government's first term. This is an exciting, unprecedented time. Never before has an end been so close! And we're looking for dynamic people to help us cross the finish line. If you have skills in fundraising that can help us grow and reach our full potential, Or are business savvy, able to advise us...

Take action with our friends at Animals Australia

Labor pledged to end live sheep exports if elected. They have had a resounding victory, with an absolute majority in the Lower House and a friendlier Senate than last parliament. Help keep them true to their word and get live sheep exports ended as soon as possible. Take action at Animals Australia's website here.

Press Release: Mr McGowan – Australians don’t want our animals treated badly

Fremantle-based not-for-profit organisation Stop Live Exports has refuted Mark McGowan’s claims that current live animal export standards are acceptable, saying welfare standards are badly lacking despite Australia’s decades-long involvement in the trade. “You only need to read the Independent Observer reports to know this”,  Stop Live Exports Campaign Manager Katrina Love said. The group says the writing is on the wall, with the trade in terminal decline and the majority of Australians in favour of ending live animal exports. They are calling for an end to live animal exports and rubbished...

Where should your vote go to help end live animal exports?

We will always call out politicians who support the live animal export trade, regardless of their party alliances. Labor has publicly re-committed to ending the live sheep trade and to not weakening the northern summer sheep trade moratorium in the interim phase-out period. Many Labor MPs have been campaigning for an end to all live animal exports for many Years and continue to do so. The Liberal-National government is committed to not only continuing the cruel trade, but to also expanding it. They are in the company of Australian Christians, Australian Democrats, Country Liberal Party (NT),...

Can you waste your vote in Australia’s electoral system?

Some people mistakenly think that voting for a minor party is a waste of a vote. With Australia's preferential voting system, you can really only waste your vote if you lodge a donkey vote, i.e., numbering boxes in the order they appear on the ballot without regard to the candidates or party's policies, or an informal vote, i.e., one that has been incorrectly completed or not filled in at all; they are not counted towards any candidate. But voting for a minor or micro party is never a waste of a vote; in fact, we'd say you're wasting your vote if you vote for a major party without sending...

Let The Decision-Makers Know Your Views

With an election in just three weeks, it is now more important than ever to let your elected MPs and prospective elected MPs know that you want live animal exports to end. Members of Parliament need to hear from their constituents. They depend on us to let them know what issues are most important in their communities. A personally written letter to your MP can be a very effective tool for change. When MPs receive multiple letters about the same issue, they pay more attention to it (politics is a numbers game after all!). Share your letter among your networks as a template, and encourage...
